In most ER’s I have worked in most of the doctors wear scrubs and also a white coat over them. That is what I wear while working. I find that the most comfortable and practical. Some docs I work with just wear scrubs but no white coat. A couple of docs I work with choose to wear their own clothes, usually a golf shirt and pants under a white coat. I worked for a number of years in an ER where we were “required “ to wear a shirt and tie. Apparently the director at the time saw a study that was done where patients in the waiting room of an ER were shown pictures of the same person dressed in different ways; scrubs, scrubs and white coat, shirt and tie, etc. and asked which one they thought looked the most professional. The guy wearing a shirt and tie with a white coat over top won so guess what, that’s what I had to wear to work for years. It was horribly uncomfortable and impractical. I ruined many shirts and ties.
Another ER I worked in required all the docs, male and female, to wear scrubs. We wear our own clothes to the hospital, change into scrubs provided by the hospital, then leave them to be laundered and change back to your regular clothes when your shift was over. I personally think that’s the best way to do it. I do not focus on his/her clothes and interior of his/her chamber. Of course I notice these things if extremely good or shabby but that is not my first concern. I don’t have any real affection for them, neither do I dislike them. I used to disrobe in the garage after my shift though so I wouldn’t contaminate my household with germs. If you’re an employee of the hospital, follow the dress code. It may or may not allow black scrubs; every hospital is different.
I mean Superheroes should have clothes for Superheroes. Astronauts, Police Officers, Fire Fighters, etc wear clothes that fit their work for a reason. The Batman wears his uniform for fear and protection. Ninjak wears his uniform for versatility and protection. The Fantastic Four wear their uniforms for symbolism, maneuverability, protection, and to work with their powers. Etc. Whether it’s for protection, ethical reasons, symbolic reasons, environmental reasons, Superpower reasons, or simply personal reasons, a Superhero usually wears something besides just normal clothes. Doesn’t mean they can’t wear normal clothes though. It is just usually smarter not to. Only in an emergency where you were coming or going but an event just occurred requiring your immediate attention.
