I never disliked Romney. He would have made a much better president than Trump, for sure. He looked like a movie star president.
Obama faced Romney when the economy was still reeling, the Affordable Care Act was unpopular, and the Republican base had lurched too far to the right, polarizing the nation. Independent and swing voters were getting squeezed out of both parties. But to suggest Obama was beatable, is to imply that the petty, partisan right had produced a conservative equivalent. He didn’t excite the energies and stir the best selves of people to act, quite like Obama. Love Obama or hate him, he knew how to work a crowd. Romney did not.
