I’m just a worker. Some people would say I’m a workaholic. I don’t look at it that way. I look at it as a woman and a minority, you have to work that extra harder to get what you want and take the opportunities when they come. I’ve just done a crazy tour across four continents in two weeks. That’s just how the cookie crumbles. And because of the commitment of what I believe in, young creatives around the world, I just had to do it that way. I showed up and I did it. Being tired doesn’t even come into the picture. All of that falls by the wayside. When you’re determined to get something done, you get it done. In the class, you touch on the importance of knowing how to move as a model. Where did you learn the art of posing and walking?

I went to a theater school my whole life. Dance was a big part of helping me to adapt to modeling in terms of posing. I used all of that education to help me when I first started modeling. Then I’d be guided and molded by the photographers, like Steven Meisel. Some photographers really take the time to mold you. Meisel is very much one of those. It’s very subtle, but he shapes you along the way. For me it was just shut up, listen, watch, and learn. You have to be on your toes; things can change all the time. You have to be open to going with the flow…I’m open to things that come up. I’ve never been like, ‘Oh, you told me I was going back home.’ No. It wasn’t about that. It was about creativity, and what was being created, and working with wonderful creators. I never cared about ‘oh, I have to go to work from 9-5.’ Whatever time we finished we finished. … Don’t put limits on yourself. I don’t think anyone should ever put limits on themselves. Be open to going with the flow. What thoughts do you have on navigating social media, especially as an up-and-coming model?

“This class is for everyone and anyone,” Campbell says to Vogue. “Just to make them feel good about themselves.” Below, she shares a glimpse at what one may find during the class, including advice on everything from preparedness to work-life balance to navigating social media. Take notes. Vogue: We all experience stage fright—whether it’s giving a boardroom presentation or strutting down a Versace runway. How do you conquer the feeling? Naomi: “Stage fright is human. It’s okay. I’ve had straight fright many times. Anytime I’m about to step out onto the runway, or anything that I do live, even when I do acting on stage, it’s terrifying. But you can use your fear in a positive way to get you over that hill. And once you get over that hill it’s quite exhilarating how you feel. You have to face your fear in order to move forward and take yourself out of that comfort zone. It’s important to take those risks. And in the end you’ll see it really wasn’t a risk.” “No, I never did. Because I believe they know what they’re looking for. And either you are what they’re looking for or not. Because of the school I went to it was easier for me to not take things personally and objectify myself in a certain way. They have their criteria? I didn’t match that criteria? Okay, well on to the next.” Modeling is not an easy-gig: Fittings and shoots run long, you have to travel around the world, etc. How do you personally maintain a positive work-life balance?
